On March 15, 2011, Colorado’s Douglas County School Board voted bravely and unaminously 7-0 to pass a school choice voucher program. They call it a resolution in support of its comprehensive Strategic Plan including a Blueprint for Choice and a Choice Pilot Scholarship Plan.
Basically, the school board voted to give itself competition and free up parents’ tax dollars to be used at a school of their own choosing. This school board understands education and freedom.
This is a unique and courageous 7-member public school board. Meet them and listen to their remarks about the program here.
Now They’re Being Sued
Now, according to the Denver Post, 3 groups are banding together to sue the Douglas County School Board: The national and state organizations of the American Civil Liberties Union and the Americans United for Separation of Church and State.
The ACLU’s legal director Mark Silverstein says:
“We all support the right of parents to send their children to private schools. The issue is they cannot do so with taxpayers’ money.”
To Whom do Tax Dollars and Children Belong?
Yet again, it never ceases to amaze the left’s denial that taxpayer money belongs to the taxpayer. In this case, the parents.
And it never ceases to amaze that the left denies that children belong to their parents… not the collective group of taxpayers.
Bravo to the Douglas County School Board – Freedom Heroes
It’s clear that the Douglas County school board understands to whom tax dollars and children belong. Bravo to them.
As my way of thanking, recognizing, and supporting these individuals for their stand for freedom, I’m adding the board to my “Freedom Heroes” tab.
