The GOP elite’s godfather, strategist Karl Rove, was caught at a private fundraiser last week saying this about Missouri’s Congressional GOP candidate Todd Akin. From PoliticalTicker:
“We should sink Todd Akin. If he’s found mysteriously murdered, don’t look for my whereabouts.”
Wow.
So, now there’s going to be a GOP leadership crusade calling for Mr. Rove’s resignation from party representation and consultations…. right????
I mean, the GOP moderates are fair and noble, and don’t adhere to the left’s double standard, right? And Akin’s comments about “legitimate rape” can’t be worse than the strategist Rove’s comments about murdering him for it, can they? <rhetorical sarcasm>
If my readers haven’t heard me say it by now, I’ll say it again. The left simply doesn’t care that it’s hypocritical, its only agenda is to destroy conservatism by any means possible, and to discredit conservatism’s messengers. Usually, we mean the “Democrats” when we’re talking about “the left.”
This time the hypocrisy test is in Republican party. Will the same GOP multitudes who joined the Akin crusade now apply their same practice towards Rove?
It’s been real silent so far. Only former GOP Presidential nominee candidates House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Governor Mike Huckabee have sounded off about it, here.

Here’s some background for those who don’t know the full story.
Missouri’s GOP Senate candidate Todd Akin made this embarrassing gaffe two weeks ago on a television talk show, and has since apologized for it:
“It seems to me, from what I understand from doctors, that’s really rare,” Mr. Akin said of pregnancies from rape. “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down. But let’s assume that maybe that didn’t work or something: I think there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be of the rapist, and not attacking the child.”
Turning opportunity into a crisis, Mr. Rove and his power clique moderate cronies within the GOP started a relentless crusade calling for Akin to drop out of the Congressional race on the unsubstantiated, historically unproven, and merely speculative basis that Akin would not only lose his race against sitting Democrat Claire McCaskill, but that Akin’s comments would also trigger a loss for GOP nominee Mitt Romney in the Presidential election <eye roll>.
Comments like this from Senator Ronald H. Johnson (R-WI) have flooded the GOP airwaves:
“Todd Akin’s statements are reprehensible and inexcusable. He should step aside today for the good of the nation.”
The GOP’s Presidential nominee Mitt Romney, who hasn’t even yet crossed his own finish line, said this:
“Congressman’s Akin comments on rape are insulting, inexcusable, and, frankly, wrong … Like millions of other Americans, we found them to be offensive.”
“I think he should accept their counsel and exit the Senate race.”
To practically ensure Akin’s loss, the GOP moderate cronies even put their money where their mouth is and pulled GOP funding from Akin’s campaign.
In spite of the crusade to oust Akin, Missouri voters know they’re still the ones who decide this Senate seat election.
An August 31 Public Policy poll shows voters accepted Akin’s apology and still want him to win. Akin leads McCaskill 45% – 44%.
The reality: This is another we-know-better-than-the-voters move by GOP moderates in power who seek to silence party conservatives.
And Karl Rove will not be repudiated by the GOP moderate cronies who band-wagoned against Akin.
But I’d sure like to be proven wrong.
